SEAG Entrance Assessment

An overview of the assessment specification for English and Mathematics.

English

Questions are based on the Reading and Writing areas of the NI Curriculum at Key Stage 2. Candidates will need to:

  • Read and understand selected texts, including writers' ideas and linguistic features.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of spelling, punctuation, and grammar.

English Main Test Breakdown:
  • 28 questions (Q1-Q28)
  • Punctuation Exercise (5 multiple-choice)
  • Grammar Exercise (5 multiple-choice)
  • Spelling Exercise (5 multiple-choice)
  • English Comprehension:
    • Pupils read a passage and answer 13 questions (Q16-Q28).
    • Q16-Q22 are multiple-choice.
    • Q23-Q28 are free response.

Mathematics

Questions are based on the Number, Shape, Space & Measures, and Handling Data areas of the NI Curriculum at Key Stage 2. Candidates will need to demonstrate knowledge of:

  • Number and algebra.
  • Shape, space, and measures.
  • Handling data.

Maths Main Test Breakdown:
  • 28 questions (Q29-Q56)
  • Q29-Q50 are multiple-choice.
  • Q51-Q56 are free response.

Key Assessment Features

  • Total of 56 questions (28 English, 28 Mathematics).
  • Total assessment time is 60 minutes.
  • Multiple-choice questions feature 5 possible answers.
  • The assessment is marked by computer.
